Pine Marten Theft

Yesterday afternoon I was on a school trip to the Wildlife Park with Mrs. Kennedy and the rest of my class. My partner, Anne, and I had to do some research on Pine Martens. Anne was copying some of the details from the information board and I was drawing a picture of one when I saw a woman taking photos of the whole enclosure not just the animals. She even took a photo of the gate. Weird or what? Then she went away down the path.

It was about 5pm when I was heading up the path to the enclosures where the Pine Marten was. I was hoping to see it this time as it wasn’t out last time I came. Anyway this woman came rushing down the path with a camera in her hand. As she passed me I noticed she was a bit smaller than me. I am 1m 72cm in height. She seemed in an awful hurry.

I am a keeper here at the Wildlife Park. I usually go round the enclosures at about 5.30pm just to check the locks and that all is secure after the food is delivered. Up at the Pine Marten’s bit and had just about to check the locks there when I was amazed to see a woman trying the lock. I know she isn’t part of the Park staff as she was not wearing the uniform we have. Lovely blue polo-shirts. I shouted at her to leave the gate alone. She let go the padlock and ran away. I rushed over to see what she was up to. What did she look like? Well I didn’t pay all that much attention. I was worried about the animals.  Mind you she had very blond hair.

I am the Scene of Crimes Officer for the region and I was called to the Kirkcudbright Wildlife Park at 8am this morning. On examining the area just inside the Pine Marten enclosure I found a diamond ear ring on the grass near to the gate. I photographed the ear ring and placed it in an evidence envelope.
